(Q32)Construct an isosceles triangle whose base is 8 cm and altitude is 4 cm. Then, draw another triangle whose sides are 1
1
2
times the corresponding sides of the isosceles triangle.

Solution :

ABDCC'B1B2B34 cm8 cmA'

Steps of construction:

1. Draw ∆ABC in which BC = 8 cm and altitude AD = 4 cm.

2. Draw a ray making an acute angle with BC on the side opposite to vertex A.

3. Mark three points B1, B2 and B3 such that BB1 = B1B2 = B2B3.

4. Join B2C.

5. Draw a line parallel to B2C through B3 meeting produced at C'.

6. Draw a line parallel to through C' meeting BA produced at A'.

7. ∆A'BC' is the required triangle.
